Local Attractions
There are two main attractions in Sunbury, the Walled Gardens and the Sunbury Millennium Embroidery, both of which are located in Lower Sunbury.
The Walled Gardens were originally built as part of the local manor house and cover an area of 2 acres. They are owned by Surrey County Council and leased to Spelthorne Borough Council. Both councils have worked to create an excellent example of a Victorian Walled garden featuring a number of Rose gardens (Victorian & Modern), a Knot garden (a 15th century style of gardening) and other historic gardens. The end result is a pleasant relaxing place for local people.
The second local attraction is the Sunbury Millennium Embroidery. This is a community project which has created a permanent record of Sunbury-on-Thames at the turn of the year 2000. The embroidery was completed by over 140 volunteers and supported by local businesses. The final embroidery consists of 9 panels with the centre panel depicting Sunbury itself.
Other nearby attractions include Bushy Park (the second largest of the Royal Parks and covers an area of 1,200 acres), Hampton Court Palace and the River Thames.
