Shepperton (Surrey)

Local Attractions

The main local attraction is the River Thames, which after meandering its way through London, begins to enter the more rural pastures of Surrey. The journey down toward Chertsey Bridge is one of the most pleasant walks along the river. The few houses at the start give way to open meadows and peaceful surroundings. The main point of access to the river is at Shepperton Lock which is also the point the River Wey joins the River Thames.

The other main local attraction, although not open to the general public, is Shepperton Studios which lies on the north west side of the town. Since its inauguration in 1932, the studios have produced a number of acclaimed films and were purchase by Pinewood Studios in 2001.

Other nearby attractions include Bedfont Lakes (a beautiful nature reserve), the Brooklands Museum (motor sports and aviation), the Elmbridge Museum (covering the history of the local area), Hampton Court Palace, Legoland, Windsor Castle and Windsor Great Park.
