The following is an explanation of the terminology & abbreviations used in the table.

Type of School (Type):
CY
Community School (similar to former County Schools)
This type of school is managed by the Local Education Authority (LEA). It employs the staff, owns the facilities and manages the Admission Policy.
CYS
Community Special School
This is the special school equivalent of a Community school. It caters mainly or wholly for pupils with statutory statements of special educational needs.
FD
Foundation School
Similar to a Voluntary Aided School. A Governing Body employs the staff and manages the Admissions Policy. The facilities are either owned by the Governing Body or a charitable organisation.
FDS
Foundation Special School
This is the special school equivalent of a Foundation school.It caters mainly or wholly for pupils with statutory statements of special educational needs.
VA
Voluntary Aided School (similar to former Aided Schools)
This type of school has a Governing Body who is employs the staff and manages the Admission Policy. The facilities are normally owned by a charitable organisation and the LEA may own some of the land.
VC
Voluntary Controlled School (similar to former Controlled Schools)
This type of school is a cross between a Community school and a Voluntary Aided school. The LEA employs the staff and controls the Admissions Policy, whilst the facilities are normally owned by a charitable organisation.

Pupils:
This is the total number of pupils on the school roll, including part-time pupils.

English, Maths & Science (Eng, Maths & Sci):
These columns show the percentage (%) of pupils, who have achieved Level 4 or above in the Key Stage 2 tests for English, Maths & Science.

Value Added (Value):
This indicates the improvement in pupils academic performance from one stage of education to the next. It is takes into account differences in pupil intake and provides another means to compare schools. Scores above 100 indicate that pupils have made more progress than similar pupils nationally, whilst scores below 100 indicate that pupils have made less progress.

Absence (Abs):
This represents the percentage of lessons missed through unauthorised absence.
