The main source of information on the UK's population is the National Census, which takes place every 10
years. The last Census took place in 2001 and the information presented on this page is based on its
findings.
Unfortunately the information available does not provide population counts for individual towns or locations.
As such the information on this page has had to be derived by measuring a town's geographic size at the time of the Census
and its subsequent share of the local area's population count.
